Misiune
Position Overview
Contribute to the development of the carbody structure for a major rolling stock project, ensuring design consistency, alignment with best practices, and adherence to architectural guidelines. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, industrialization, and project management teams to deliver high-quality engineering designs on time.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Coordination
Support the Carbody Shell Mechanical Lead Engineer and Design Leader in building and updating design schedules, including activities, milestones, and deliverables.
Track the progress of design deliverables (3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, technical notes) and proactively report delays or risks.
Participate in design reviews and project meetings, preparing all required technical inputs.
Design & Engineering
Design carbody shell structural parts and sub-assemblies (underframe, side walls, roof, end walls, cab structure) using CATIA V5.
Develop general structural concepts and define space allocations with interfacing systems (HVAC, doors, bogies, electrical equipment, interiors).
Produce detailed drawings incorporating welding specifications and GD&T in compliance with applicable rail standards (e.g., EN 15085, ISO 3834).
Integrate stress and FEA calculation results into structural designs and iterate alongside the structural analysis team.
Manage design changes and resolve interface issues via established configuration management processes.
Quality, Cost & Delivery (QCD)
Ensure designs adhere to QCD commitments, including weight targets, cost targets, and deadlines.
Guarantee product performance, manufacturability, maintainability, and testability through Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA).
Contribute to risk analyses (DFMEA) and support the resolution of technical non-conformances.
Industrialization & Production Support
Collaborate with Industrialization teams to align designs with welding processes, tooling jigs, and assembly sequences.
Assist Purchasing with the technical evaluation and ongoing follow-up of structural parts suppliers.
Provide direct technical support to Production during prototype builds and manufacturing ramp-ups (handling deviations, concessions, and root cause analysis).
Continuous Improvement
Capture lessons learned and share domain knowledge across the carbody engineering team.
Propose improvements to design methods, technical standards, and engineering tools.
Profil
Education & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical diploma with relevant experience.
Experience: 3 to 10 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering environment; experience in the rail or heavy transportation industry is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficient in mechanical design using CATIA V5 (or equivalent 3D CAD software).
Strong background in welded structures and sheet metal design.
Applied knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
Practical understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and industrialization.
Languages
Fluent in French and English (written and spoken).
Key Competencies
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
High degree of autonomy with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Strong team spirit and cross-functional communication skills.
