- Verify instrumentation selection, sizing, ranges, accuracy, materials and suitability for operating conditions.
- Review interfaces between field instrumentation, DCS, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Fire and Gas (F&G) systems and packaged equipment.
- Assess instrumentation and control interfaces associated with LPG storage, transfer, regasification, boil-off gas and flare systems.
- Review alarm management arrangements, alarm prioritisation, setpoints and operator interface requirements.
- Verify hazardous-area instrumentation selection and compliance with applicable explosion protection requirements.
- Review control system communication networks, instrumentation cabling, junction boxes and interface documentation.
- Assess vendor documentation, technical specifications, equipment datasheets and system integration test plans.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, HAZID, HAZOP and SIL workshops, where applicable.
- Identify technical deviations, design discrepancies, integration risks and non-conformances.
- Verify compliance with applicable South African regulations, SANS and relevant international standards.
- Coordinate instrumentation and control interfaces with process, electrical, mechanical, piping and safety disciplines.
- Support technical-query resolution during procurement, construction and installation.
- Participate in selected Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), loop checks, function testing and system integration testing.
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up readiness and handover activities.
- Maintain engineering review records and track technical comments through close-out.
- Provide technical recommendations and escalate significant control system or instrumentation risks.
TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide senior-level instrumentation and control systems engineering expertise.
- Review and verify engineering deliverables within delegated technical authority.
- Assess DCS architecture, field instrumentation and control system integration.
- Verify compliance with engineering specifications, applicable standards and project requirements.
- Identify instrumentation, alarm management, control system and interface risks.
- Support engineering quality assurance and resolution of technical non-conformances.
