Job Description / Technical Scope of Work :
- Perform structural sizing and select appropriate materials (steel, aluminum extrusion) for stability and load-bearing requirements; design for ease of installation, mobility (casters), height adjustability and maintenance access.
- Layout Design: Develop 2D/3D plant floor layouts integrating cobots, conveyors, fixtures, safety fencing and operator workstations.
- EOAT (End-of-Arm Tooling) Design: Design custom grippers, vacuum tooling and fixtures for cobot/robot end-effectors based on part geometry, weight and process requirements (pick-and-place, welding, dispensing, assembly).
- Select appropriate actuation methods (pneumatic, electric, vacuum) and off-the-shelf components (grippers, suction cups, sensors) from vendors (SMC, Festo, Schunk, OnRobot, etc.).
Drafting:
- Create detailed 2D engineering drawings (part drawings, assembly drawings, sub-assembly drawings) from 3D CAD models.
- Ensure drawings follow drafting standards (ASME Y14.5, ISO 128, or company-specific drafting standards).
- Maintain drawing templates, standard parts libraries and title block formats.
- Release and manage drawing revisions through PLM/PDM systems (Teamcenter, AWC, NX, etc.).
GD&T:
- Apply GD&T symbols and callouts (flatness, straightness, position, concentricity, runout, profile, etc.) accurately on part drawings per ASME Y14.5 / ISO 1101 standards.
- Establish proper Datum Reference Frames (DRFs) and datum schemes based on part function and assembly requirements.
- Perform tolerance stack-up checks to validate GD&T callouts support fit, form and function.
- Review supplier/vendor drawings for GD&T correctness and compliance with design intent.
- Support tolerance allocation discussions with design and manufacturing teams to balance cost vs. precision.
- Cross-Functional Support: Work closely with design engineers, manufacturing engineers and quality teams to ensure drawings reflect accurate design intent.
- Support First Article Inspection (FAI), PPAP documentation and inspection report reviews related to dimensional callouts.
- Participate in design reviews (DFM/DFA) to identify drafting or tolerancing issues before release.
- Coordinate with vendors/machine shops to clarify drawing requirements and resolve manufacturing queries.
Others:
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Creo, AutoCAD) for drawing creation.
- Solid understanding of ASME Y14.5 (or ISO 1101) GD&T standards.
- Knowledge of engineering drawing standards, tolerancing practices and datum structures.
- Ability to read and interpret complex assembly drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis (1D/2D/3D) (preferred).
- Exposure to PLM/PDM tools (Teamcenter, Windchill, SolidWorks PDM) (preferred).
- ASME GDTP (GD&T Professional) certification - Technologist or Senior level - is a plus (preferred).
- Familiarity with sheet metal, machined parts, or plastic injection molded part drafting (preferred).
- Understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, casting, sheet metal, injection molding) to support DFM-friendly drafting (preferred).
- Strong attention to detail, precision and cross-functional communication skills.
Profil
To provide Cobot Cell and AMR design engineering support, including 2D/3D layout development, mechanical system and fixture design, component integration, and the creation of manufacturing-ready drawings with accurate GD&T callouts, datum schemes, and tolerance allocations in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
