Position Overview

The Design Release Lead Engineer for Steering Systems is responsible for the engineering, design, development, validation, timing, and production release of new steering systems and components (specifically Electric Power Steering / EPS). This engineer oversees program development, tracks timing and recovery plans, drives quality and cost-efficiency initiatives, and communicates product status to engineering leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Release Leadership

  • End-to-End Release: Lead the end-to-end engineering design, vehicle packaging (NX), and release of Electric Power Steering (EPS) systems, steering columns, intermediate shafts, gear assemblies, and related hardware.

  • Program Tracking: Manage program development, track key milestones, and report project status, issues, and recovery plans to cross-functional teams and management.

Validation & Testing

  • Test Planning: Establish component and system-level test plans for steering systems.

  • Validation Execution: Execute validation plans including system-level bench testing and vehicle-level dynamic testing to verify steering performance, structural strength, fatigue life, and feel.

Quality & Cost Optimization

  • Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous quality improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency improvement initiatives across steering commodities.

  • Root-Cause Analysis: Perform root-cause problem solving for steering performance, NVH, and packaging issues.

Supplier & Cross-Functional Management

  • Stakeholder Coordination: Interface with Tier-1 steering suppliers, purchasing, quality, manufacturing, and vehicle dynamics groups to ensure functional targets and delivery schedules are met.

  • Manufacturing Support: Support assembly plant builds and resolve vehicle assembly or fitment issues.

Perfil

Education

  • Degree: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university (or equivalent).

  • Preferred: Master of Science degree in Engineering.
