POSITION SUMMARY

SEGULA Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to support the engineering, design review, technical verification and commissioning of industrial facilities in the energy and hydrocarbon sectors.

The successful candidate will provide senior process engineering expertise for LPG handling, storage, transfer and regasification systems. The role involves reviewing process design documentation, assessing process safety and operability, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering interfaces, and supporting project activities from design through commissioning and handover.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review process design bases, design criteria, LPG composition assumptions, material and energy balances, and operating philosophies.
  • Review and verify Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment lists, line lists and process datasheets.
  • Assess process calculations, hydraulic studies, equipment sizing, technical specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Review process design requirements for LPG storage, transfer, pressurisation, depressurisation and regasification systems.
  • Assess boil-off gas management, flare systems, pressure relief, emergency depressurisation and associated process safety interfaces.
  • Review process control philosophies, control narratives, operating envelopes, start-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Evaluate process equipment and package vendor documentation for technical compliance, safety and operability.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessments, model reviews and constructability reviews, where applicable.
  • Identify process design risks, technical deviations, non-conformances and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate process engineering interfaces with mechanical, piping, instrumentation and control, electrical, civil, safety and commissioning disciplines.
  • Support technical reviews during procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up.
  • Review commissioning procedures, operating procedures and process performance requirements.
  • Maintain technical review registers, comment-resolution records and engineering documentation.
  • Provide technical recommendations to engineering management and support timely resolution of process-related issues.
  • Ensure process engineering deliverables comply with applicable legislation, project specifications and recognised international standards.

TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide senior-level process engineering expertise and technical guidance.
  • Review and verify engineering deliverables within delegated technical authority.
  • Identify process safety risks and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Support design optimisation, operational reliability, maintainability and lifecycle performance.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Maintain high standards of engineering quality, technical documentation and process safety.

Perfil

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (BSc or BEng) – mandatory.
  • Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) – preferred.
  • Training in HAZOP, HAZID and process safety – preferred.
  • Training in process simulation, hydraulic analysis and pressure relief system design – advantageous.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant process engineering experience.
  • Direct experience in LPG terminals, hydrocarbon storage, gas processing, regasification or comparable pressurised or refrigerated hydrocarbon facilities – essential.
  • Strong experience in process design, engineering calculations, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment sizing and process datasheets.
  • Experience with process safety systems, pressure relief, depressurisation, flare systems and boil-off gas management.
  • Experience in refining, petrochemical, oil and gas or gas-processing projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or reviewing engineering deliverables and participating in HAZOP studies and multidisciplinary design reviews.
  • Experience with process simulation, hydraulic calculations and relief-system analysis.
  • Experience supporting procurement, construction, commissioning, start-up and operational handover.
  • Previous independent technical review or engineering assurance experience – preferred.
