POSITION SUMMARY

SEGULA Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical and Rotating Equipment Engineer to provide independent technical assurance and owner’s-team oversight for an LPG offloading, regasification and storage facility.

The successful candidate will review and challenge mechanical and rotating-equipment engineering deliverables produced by the EPC/EPCM contractor, ensuring compliance with the approved design basis, project specifications, applicable legislation and recognised industry standards.

The role focuses on technical assurance, design review, equipment reliability, operability, maintainability and support during procurement, construction, commissioning and handover. It does not include responsibility for executing the EPC/EPCM contractor’s detailed design.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide senior mechanical engineering leadership and independent technical assurance within the owner’s team.
  • Review and assess mechanical and rotating-equipment specifications, datasheets, calculations, drawings, design criteria and vendor documentation.
  • Review technical deliverables relating to LPG transfer pumps, submerged pumps, compressors, drivers, seals and auxiliary systems.
  • Verify equipment suitability, reliability, maintainability, materials selection, vibration limits, sealing arrangements and performance requirements.
  • Ensure alignment with the approved basis of design, project requirements, applicable South African legislation and relevant international codes and standards.
  • Review vendor technical clarifications, deviations, inspection and test plans, and equipment acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL workshops, model reviews and constructability reviews, as applicable.
  • Support technical evaluations during procurement, equipment manufacturing, installation and pre-commissioning.
  • Witness or support selected factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), inspections and performance tests.
  • Provide technical support for mechanical package issues during construction, commissioning, start-up and handover.
  • Maintain review registers, technical comments, non-conformance records and action close-out documentation.
  • Identify, assess and escalate critical technical risks, design deviations and non-compliances.
  • Coordinate with the owner’s team, EPC/EPCM contractor, vendors, construction teams, commissioning teams and client representatives.
  • Support key project decision gates and high-risk technical interfaces without duplicating the contractor’s detailed design responsibilities.
