The Wiring / Value Optimization Engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing, and optimizing electrical distribution systems (wiring harnesses, connectors, and routing). This role balances functional requirements with value engineering (VA/VE) principles to minimize overall manufacturing cost, reduce weight, simplify assembly, and maintain or improve product quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Cost & Weight Reduction (VA/VE): Analyze electrical schematics and physical harness layouts to identify cost savings, weight reductions, and design simplifications (e.g., wire gauge optimization, connector consolidation, splice reductions).
Design Optimization: Evaluate wiring topologies, harness routing paths, and component selections to improve manufacturability, ease of installation, and field serviceability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with systems design, procurement, quality, and manufacturing teams to implement engineering change requests (ECRs) while meeting program launch targets.
Benchmarking & Competitive Analysis: Perform tear-downs and competitive benchmarking on alternative wiring solutions to identify best practices and emerging industry technologies.
Quality & Validation: Ensure all design modifications comply with safety regulations, signal integrity requirements, and performance standards through structured testing and failure mode analyses (DFMEA/DVP&R).
Perfil
Basic Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience in electrical wire harness design, electrical distribution systems (EDS), or product value engineering (VA/VE).
Technical Skills:
Knowledge of electrical schematics, 2D/3D harness drafting software (e.g., Siemens Capital, Zuken, CATIA, NX, or Creo).
Familiarity with wire gauge sizing, fusing strategies, shielding techniques, and connector/terminal selection.
Basic understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM) management and manufacturing assembly processes.
Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective cross-functional communication abilities.
