Factory Information System Specialist

Job Description

The Factory Information System Specialist (FISS) is responsible for ensuring a successful launch of the Factory Information System (FIS) for new and kitted programs within the Vehicle Process Engineering (VPE) environment during all phases of program launch. This position involves participation and support in the implementation of FIS standards and specifications from the design phase through launch.

The FISS is responsible for supporting Line Integrators in understanding FIS Standards and providing key deliverables on time throughout all launch phases. The role also includes supporting regular team meetings to review progress, identifying potential obstacles, monitoring projects to meet their technical and business objectives, reviewing lessons learned, tracking and updating action registers, and coordinating work schedules.



The FISS responsibilities will mainly be : 

  • Support the execution, deployment, and integration of Factory Information Systems (FIS) across multiple launches.
  • Develop FIS event maps, defining common message formats and structures (Workbook development).
  • Provide integration support and develop user guidelines.
  • Support the development of trigger logic to drive messages based on system configuration.
  • Assist with research and development, including evaluation of lessons learned.
  • Research problems experienced in the field and provide standard solutions.
  • Deliver proof of concept for proposed solutions.
  • Support VPE Conveyor, Automation, and Robotic Engineering goals during launch phases.
  • Ensure build processes and manufacturing operations follow established standards.
  • Lead and support Line Integrators in implementing FIS Standards.
  • Represent FIS requirements on project Application Committees and Subcommittees.
  • Assist VPE teams at the plant with Controls Applications.
  • Support Controls Project Lead (CPL) activities.
  • Drive throughput and cycle time improvements, downtime resolution, and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) reductions.
  • Provide FIS reports, including:
    • Action Register (AR) tracking
    • Open and new issue monitoring
    • FIS campaign progress tracking
    • Timeline goal adherence
    • Line Integrator progress updates
  • Conduct system audits during all project phases, interpret findings, and implement corrective actions.
  • Document and share lessons learned to enhance future implementations.
  • Act as a liaison between Line Integrators, subcontractors, and VPE teams to ensure alignment on FIS standards.
  • Participate in weekly meetings to track progress, resolve issues, and provide technical guidance.
  • Assist Line Integrator engineering and execution teams in understanding FIS standards and expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or 5+ years of FIS Manufacturing Automation experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in Manufacturing, Engineering, and IT, with expertise in strategic planning, IT applications, and plant floor operations.
  • Hands-on experience with Factory Information Systems (FIS) and Rockwell PLCs.
  • Knowledge of HMI Development (FactoryTalk View).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing process engineering in the automotive industry.
  • Experience with robotics and automation systems.
  • Proven team leadership and communication skills.
  • Self-directed and motivated to implement change within an operational scope.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present to Senior Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree (MBA preferred).
  • Experience with Information Technology Systems.
  • Understanding of PLC programming.
  • Proficiency in HMI Development (WinCC, FactoryTalk View).
  • Experience with CAD software (ePlan, AutoCAD).
  • Ability to develop bid packages for new equipment.
  • In-depth robotics knowledge and hands-on experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive efficiency improvements.
