Automotive Front & Rear Lights Designer – Siemens NX / CATIA

Job Description

We are looking for a talented and technology-passionate designer to join our automotive design team. You will be responsible for designing and developing advanced lighting systems, from the first sketch to series integration.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Conceptual Design and Development:

  • Create concepts and sketches (2D/3D) for headlamps and lighting systems, aligned with the vehicle's design theme and market trends.

  • Develop and manage design layouts (packaging) for the integration of parts into the overall body assembly.

  • Create high-precision virtual 3D models (Class A Surface) for optical components and housings.

  • Participate in defining and validating "Character Lines" and the brand's lighting signature (DRL - Daytime Running Lights, optical signatures).

B. Engineering and Detailing:

  • Collaborate with opto-mechanical engineers to optimize the design from the perspective of light performance, thermal management, and assembly.

  • Define the geometry and critical tolerances for lenses, reflectors, diffusers, and housings.

  • Ensure compliance with mandatory regulatory standards (ECE, SAE, FMVSS, etc.) regarding beam pattern, light intensity, and durability.

  • Create and manage the 2D documentation package (technical drawings) for prototypes and series production.

C. Collaboration and Integration:

  • Work proactively with Exterior Design, Interior Design, and Color & Trim teams to ensure visual consistency.

  • Participate in technical reviews with product, quality, and purchasing engineers.

  • Support the team in the selection of materials (polycarbonate, PMMA, elastomers, finishes) and technologies (molding, coatings).

  • Communicate and coordinate with external suppliers to validate design feasibility and manufacturing processes.

D. Prototyping and Validation:

  • Support the prototyping process (mock-ups, functional prototypes).

  • Participate in testing and validation (fit-checks, aesthetic reviews, bench, and vehicle tests).

  • Implement necessary design changes based on feedback from the prototyping and testing phases.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

  • University degree in Automotive Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience in designing automotive components, with a focus on lighting systems.

  • A demonstrative portfolio with relevant projects (concepts or series production parts) is mandatory.

E. Technical Competencies (Hard Skills):

  • Mandatory: Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD solution for surface design (preferably CATIA V5/V6 or Siemens NX).

  • Mandatory: Knowledge of optical principles and automotive lighting technologies (LED, Matrix LED, Adaptive Driving Beam, Laser, OLED).

  • Mandatory: Knowledge of standards and regulations in the automotive lighting field (ECE, SAE).

  • Desired: Experience with visual rendering environments (Keyshot, VRED) and the virtual/clay modeling workflow

  • Desired: Understanding of manufacturing processes for plastic components (injection molding, metallization).

F. Personal Competencies (Soft Skills):

  • Analytical and creative thinking, attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Flexibility and an innovative mindset

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 1.5 years of design, release, and CAD packaging experience
  • Experience designing and developing large injection-molded components
  • Knowledge of injection molding, painting, and decorating plastic components
  • Experience releasing both mechanical and electrical components
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, and database applications
  • OEM or supplier design and release experience
  • Proficiency with Catia V5, NX, and Teamcenter
  • Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, and validation plans
