Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Engineer
Job Description
Are you an experienced Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Engineer with a passion for ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient working environments? We’re looking for a skilled professional to support a site‑wide LEV compliance and improvement project covering design, installation, commissioning, and validation of LEV systems.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a major engineering and manufacturing site, ensuring full compliance with COSHH Regulation 9, HSG258, and internal standards.
🔧 What You’ll Do
As our LEV Project Engineer, you will:
- Lead or support the design, specification, and modification of LEV systems across manufacturing and workshop environments.
- Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and internal engineering teams on installation plans, commissioning activity, and system upgrades.
- Conduct LEV commissioning, performance testing, and verification in line with BOHS and HSE guidance.
- Produce high‑quality technical documentation including design calculations, reports, airflow measurements, and performance data.
- Ensure all deliverables meet COSHH and HSG258 requirements, contributing to Thorough Examination & Testing (TExT) readiness.
- Identify compliance gaps, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support training and awareness sessions on correct LEV use and operation.
- Work collaboratively with Production, H&S, Facilities, and Environmental teams.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in LEV design, installation oversight, commissioning, and performance assessment.
- Strong understanding of COSHH, HSG258, airflow principles, ducting design, fan selection, and control systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Hands‑on experience with airflow measurement tools (pitot tubes, anemometers, manometers, smoke generators, etc.).
- Demonstrable experience producing technical and compliance documentation.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate contractors and multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
⭐ Desirable Qualifications
Ideally, you will hold or be working towards relevant BOHS LEV qualifications, such as:
- P600 – Methods for Testing LEV Systems
- P601 – Thorough Examination and Testing
- P602 – Basic Design Principles
- P603 – Advanced Design Principles
- P604 – Performance Evaluation & Commissioning
(Equivalent LEV engineering certifications also considered.)
