Job Description
The successful candidate must have Automotive design expertise with good understanding of global, contemporary automotive design form and language. Experience in producing three-dimensional clay models with high quality and efficiency according to the design inputs such as sketches, renderings and CAD data provided.
Experience and Skills Required:
- Communication: Effective communication with the design team, studio engineers, and digital surface modelling team to incorporate all required inputs into the clay model.
- Sketch Modelling: Proficiency in “freestyle” sculpture, interpreting sketches or verbal directions creatively and subjectively.
- Model finishing: The art of carefully and systematically working to create clean and perfect ‘A Class’ or ‘concept’ surfaces, required before ‘scanning’, ‘Dynoc’, or ‘Paint’ process.
- Model dressing: Capability to dress both exterior and interior clay models with Dynoc film, foil, paint, and other materials.
- Additional finishing: Expertise in finishing, preparation, and painting of additional parts to dress models. Including 3D printed parts and hard parts, vinyl prints finishing tape etc.
- Technical knowledge: Ability to read and understand engineering layouts and information related to package hardpoints and feasibility issues.
- Ability and discipline to manage timing and report back to the clay modelling manager.
- Experience to complete fabrication tasks such as operation of workshop machinery, model making tools and related equipment, in a safe and efficient way.
- Ability to complete scanning of clay models and prepare scan data for the digital surfacing and engineering team.
- Competency in setting up exterior and interior models to required engineering criteria including vehicle ride height, wheel position etc.
- Must be able to lead the team to complete production of clay models for interior and exterior vehicles. Manage and control a team of clay modelling service resources to deliver final product on time.
Qualifications
- 6-9 or 10+ years of experience in clay modelling in the automotive industry.
- Must have completed more than 5 vehicles.
- Experience with Tebis software.
- Have a proactive, committed, and responsible working attitude.
