Job Title: Freelance Senior / Lead IVI Audio Engineer – Android & QNX Audio Stack
Location: Hybrid – Remote / KSA travel when required
Contract Type: Freelance
Duration: 3 months

Work Mode: Hybrid – Home-based with travel to KSA when needed
Availability: Immediate / Urgent

We are looking for an experienced Freelance Senior / Lead IVI Audio Engineer for a 3-month urgent assignment in hybrid mode, combining remote work from home with travel to KSA when required.

The consultant must have strong hands-on knowledge of how the audio stack works in In-Vehicle Infotainment systems, covering both the Android audio layer and the QNX audio layer.

The consultant will support the optimization of the current IVI audio architecture and work closely with internal teams, OEM stakeholders, platform teams and suppliers to improve system performance, stability, latency, routing and overall user experience.

The target platform is based on Qualcomm Snapdragon automotive platforms.

Business travel to KSA, when required by the project, will be arranged and expensed in line with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

IVI Audio Architecture & Optimization

Analyze the existing IVI audio architecture across Android and QNX layers.

Identify gaps, bottlenecks and improvement areas in the current audio design.

Support architecture enhancement to improve audio performance, routing, latency, stability and scalability.

Drive technical discussions related to audio use cases, system behavior and platform limitations.

Android Audio Stack

Work on Android Automotive audio framework components, including:

Audio Policy
AudioFlinger
Audio HAL
Audio routing and focus management
Car Audio Service
Audio zones and volume groups

Analyze Android audio behavior for media, navigation, voice assistant, Bluetooth, telephony, alerts and system sounds.

Debug Android audio issues related to routing, volume, latency, focus, mute, ducking and priority handling.

QNX Audio Stack

Work with QNX-based audio framework and middleware components.

Support audio routing between QNX, Android, DSP, amplifier and vehicle interfaces.

Analyze QNX audio services, device drivers, resource management and real-time audio behavior.

Support debugging of audio path, timing, synchronization and routing issues in QNX.

Supplier & Stakeholder Management

Technically challenge suppliers on audio architecture, implementation quality, optimization methods and issue resolution.

Review supplier proposals, design documents, logs and technical recommendations.

Drive suppliers toward best-in-class solutions for IVI audio performance and user experience.

Coordinate with OEM, Tier-1, platform, validation and system engineering teams.

Perfil

Required Skills

Strong experience in IVI audio systems and automotive infotainment platforms.

Hands-on understanding of the Android Automotive audio stack.

Good understanding of QNX audio architecture and real-time embedded audio behavior.

Experience with Qualcomm Snapdragon automotive platforms.

Knowledge of audio routing, audio focus, audio policy, Audio HAL, DSP, amplifiers, codecs and middleware.

Strong debugging skills using logs, traces and system-level analysis.

Experience in analyzing and improving audio latency, audio quality and audio source management.

Ability to review and challenge supplier designs and technical proposals.

Strong communication skills to work with OEMs, Tier-1s, suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.

Ability to work independently as a freelance consultant in a fast-paced project environment.

Good to Have Skills

Experience with Android Automotive OS.

Knowledge of Qualcomm audio DSP architecture.

Experience with QNX Hypervisor-based IVI platforms.

Understanding of ALSA, PulseAudio, Audio HAL, A2B, MOST, Ethernet AVB or automotive audio bus systems.

Experience with Bluetooth audio profiles such as A2DP, HFP and AVRCP.

Knowledge of vehicle chimes, alerts, voice prompts, navigation audio and multi-zone audio.

Experience with tools such as ADB, QNX Momentics, Lauterbach, CANoe, Qualcomm debug tools, logcat, systrace and audio analyzers.

Understanding of ASPICE, functional safety or automotive cybersecurity.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Automotive Engineering or a related field.

Relevant experience in automotive infotainment, embedded audio, Android Automotive, QNX or connected cockpit systems.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on automotive audio expert who can understand the complete IVI audio chain from application layer to OS, middleware, DSP, amplifier and speakers.

The candidate should be able to improve the current audio architecture, identify supplier gaps and drive technical solutions to enhance the overall in-vehicle audio experience.
