About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Jr. Design Release Engineer (DRE) – Sunroof & Roof Mechatronics to support the engineering release, integration, and validation of vehicle sunroof systems and roof mechatronics (panoramic roofs, power glass assemblies, electric shade mechanisms, drive motors, and roof controllers).
In this role, you will assist senior release engineers in managing component deliverables from concept to production launch. You will work closely with mechatronics suppliers, interior/exterior integration teams, and manufacturing operations to ensure smooth assembly fitment, functional performance, water sealing, and acoustic quality.
Key Responsibilities
Component Release Support: Assist in the design release and life-cycle management of sunroof modules, power glass mechanisms, roller blinds/shades, drive motors, ECUs, and weather sealing systems in PLM software.
Packaging & CAD Integration: Perform CAD packaging checks, gap/flush evaluations, and clearance studies in CATIA or Siemens NX to ensure seamless integration between the roof mechatronics, body-in-white (BIW), roof ditch, and interior headliner.
Mechatronics & Functional Testing: Support functional validation for electric motor actuation, anti-pinch safety algorithms, water drainage/leak testing, acoustic wind noise, and thermal expansion across temperature extremes.
Supplier Coordination: Participate in technical alignment meetings with Tier-1 sunroof suppliers; review supplier Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback, tooling timelines, and component validation reports.
Build Support & Root Cause Analysis: Attend prototype vehicle builds (TT, PP) and plant launches to troubleshoot physical fitment, wire harness routing, sealing alignment, or motor operation issues using 8D and 5-Why analysis.
Validation & DVP&R: Track component validation testing against the Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R), documenting test results and managing hardware engineering change orders (ECOs/ECRs).
Profil
Qualifications & Skill Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering.
Experience: 1–3 years of experience in automotive product engineering, mechatronics, electro-mechanical mechanisms, or roof systems (internships, co-ops, or trainee programs within automotive OEMs/Tier-1 suppliers are welcome).
CAD Proficiency: Hands-on experience with 3D CAD platforms (CATIA V5/V6 or Siemens NX) for solid modeling, section analysis, clearance checks, and packaging reviews.
Electro-Mechanical Systems Knowledge: Basic understanding of DC electric motors, hall-effect sensors, electronic control units (ECUs), kinematic linkages, plastic injection guide rails, and sealing/gasket interfaces.
Quality & Release Foundations: Familiarity with standard automotive quality tools, including DFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, and engineering change management processes.
Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel 15%–25% to support assembly plant launches, testing facilities, and supplier manufacturing sites.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with panoramic sunroof mechanisms, ambient lighting integration, or smart/electrochromic glass technology.
Exposure to LIN bus communication or diagnostic tools for sunroof ECU actuation (e.g., Vector CANoe/CANalyzer).
Hands-on experience in automotive vehicle launch support or prototype build facilities.
