Compito
Position Summary
Design, build, commission, and support custom data acquisition (DAQ) and control systems for automotive testing environments. Serving as an engineering liaison across product development areas and test laboratories, this role delivers tailored hardware and software solutions where commercial off-the-shelf options are not readily available. The ideal candidate will take end-to-end technical project ownership—from initial requirements gathering to final commissioning—and support dynamometer test systems, instrumentation, and control monuments at the Technical Center.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Project Ownership: Manage custom DAQ and control system projects through the entire lifecycle: requirements gathering, specification creation, project resourcing, scheduling, design, build, commissioning, and long-term support.
Custom Hardware & Software Design: Design, assemble, and program custom control panels, instrumentation setups, and data acquisition hardware/software tailored to specific test lab requirements.
Dynamometer & Test Bench Support: Provide technical leadership in the repair, upgrade, calibration, and troubleshooting of dynamometer test systems, control loops, and specialized test equipment/monuments.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with Product Engineering teams and Test Laboratory personnel to translate complex testing needs into custom functional solutions.
System Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve complex root-cause failures in PLC-based control systems, instrumentation hardware, and software applications.
Profilo
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (BSME), or a closely related discipline (Open to entry-level candidates and recent graduates).
Control Systems Design: Basic knowledge of control system architectures, electrical schematics, and control panel design.
Instrumentation Fundamentals: Solid grasp of sensor types, signal conditioning, calibration methodologies, and general test lab instrumentation.
Programming & Troubleshooting: Hands-on experience or coursework in programming and troubleshooting automation and test platforms (e.g., PLCs, LabVIEW, C#, C++).
Data Acquisition & Control: Understanding of DAQ hardware architectures, signal processing, and real-time control system concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in automotive test laboratories, dynamometer cells, or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environments.
Practical familiarity with industrial communication protocols (CAN, Modbus, EtherCAT) and industrial panel wiring.
Internship, co-op, or senior capstone project experience focused on custom automation, mechatronics, or embedded controls.
