As part of our continued growth in the Middle East, we are looking for an experienced General Manager – Wastewater Treatment / O&M to lead the operations and management of major wastewater treatment facilities in the UAE.
Job Description
The General Manager will provide strategic direction, operational leadership, and overall management of wastewater treatment plant operations.
The role is responsible for ensuring the achievement of business, operational, contractual, financial and stakeholder objectives while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, asset performance and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to functional and operational managers.
- Establish short-, medium- and long-term objectives, performance targets and operational plans.
- Develop, implement and execute business and operational strategies.
- Formulate and implement company policies supporting contractual and business objectives.
- Coordinate and ensure timely execution of departmental strategies and operational plans.
- Ensure effective management of resources, contracts and operational activities.
- Manage relationships with senior management, shareholders, clients and key stakeholders.
- Develop strategic business partnerships to optimise asset performance and lifecycle management.
- Lead annual budgeting, financial planning and cost-control activities.
- Ensure an appropriate balance between contractual obligations, operational requirements and stakeholder expectations.
- Oversee financial, HR and O&M management activities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, applicable legislation and contractual requirements.
- Promote continuous improvement and operational best practices across the organisation.
- Represent the organisation in high-level meetings and stakeholder engagements.
- Foster a professional, collaborative and performance-driven working environment.
- Support the professional development and growth of employees.
- Ensure safe working practices and maintain a strong zero-tolerance approach towards unsafe behaviour.
- Promote information sharing and collaboration across operational teams.
- Coach and support managers and team members to continuously improve performance.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of management reports, operational reports and performance-monitoring tools.
- Organise and coordinate senior management meetings and ensure appropriate follow-up of actions.
- Maintain effective internal and external communication with relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- Recognised management or leadership qualification is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of wastewater treatment plant processes and associated operations.
- Strong knowledge of asset management principles and lifecycle optimisation.
- Excellent project management capabilities.
- Strong commercial, financial and general business management skills.
- Strong understanding of HSE requirements within industrial and operational environments.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
- Strong leadership, negotiation and conflict-resolution capabilities.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong report-writing and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and standard business productivity tools.
Experience Required
- Minimum 15 years of continuous professional experience within the water, wastewater, utilities or industrial sector.
- Minimum 8 years of senior management experience.
- Significant experience managing wastewater treatment plants and/or water infrastructure O&M operations.
- Proven experience managing operational performance, budgets, contracts and multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated experience working with clients, senior stakeholders and management committees.
- Experience in asset management, operational improvement and performance optimisation.
- Previous experience in the Middle East/GCC would be an advantage.
