A test engineer writes procedures and various documents for type testing, witnesses the tests, and documents the results. The test engineer is also involved in developing fixtures and other equipment required for testing, and drives “projects within the project” by participating in meetings and collaborating with other internal departments.

In addition to testing, a significant amount of work is carried out internally to maintain a high standard in the lab, regarding equipment, materials, etc. This requires knowledge of calibration, measurement uncertainty, and related topics.

It is an advantage if the person has a good understanding of mechanics, and it is beneficial if they are comfortable working hands-on, even though this is primarily the technician’s responsibility.
