Rail Test Engineer – Rolling Stock | Făurei, Romania
Job Description
In this project, Trial Operation Tests (TOT) are a mandatory step prior to Preliminary Take Over (PTO) and are conducted as simulated commercial operation without passengers, following a defined test program to ensure full functionality of each trainset.
Before the TOT phase, trains undergo an Internal Reliability Growth (IRG) phase, aimed at increasing system maturity and identifying early-life failures (“youth failures”).
Both IRG and TOT phases are performed at two railway test centers, one of them located in Făurei, Romania, where this position will be mainly based.
During these test phases, the Rail Test Engineer / Troubleshooter will carry out hands-on testing and troubleshooting activities on complete trainsets and subsystems, including but not limited to:
Functional tests
Endurance tests
Degraded mode tests
Burn-in tests
The role involves simulating real operational conditions, including train running, system activation, and repeated operating cycles, in order to assess performance, reliability, and robustness of train systems.
The Test Engineer will:
Carry out troubleshooting activities during pre-warranty, commissioning, and reliability testing phases
Investigate failures and support root cause analysis
Report and register all deviations, failures, and events in the Failure Management Database, including configuration data
Execute test and troubleshooting procedures to evaluate system performance
Support technical investigations led by engineering teams or internal/external suppliers
Ensure compliance with client and internal EHS, safety, and security rules
Ensure proper communication and information flow between teams and shifts
Contribute to Return of Experience (RoE) and continuous improvement activities
While the main working location is Făurei, occasional travel to other European countries (France, Denmark, Germany, Czech Republic) may be required for testing support, training, or on-the-job learning.
Qualifications
Experience as a Test Engineer, Troubleshooter, or similar technical role in rolling stock, rail systems, or complex industrial environments
Experience with functional testing, commissioning, reliability testing, or maintenance/troubleshooting activities
Ability to perform hands-on technical investigations on electrical and electromechanical systems
Basic understanding of train subsystems (e.g. doors, HVAC, braking, power supply, passenger systems)
Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and technical documentation
Basic knowledge of electrical test equipment (e.g. multimeter)
Basic understanding of network concepts (IP address, LAN communication) used in modern train systems
Ability to follow structured test procedures and accurately report results
Strong analytical skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
Ability to work in an international, multicultural environment
English proficiency is mandatory (spoken and written)
Danish or French is a plus
Willingness to work in Făurei and availability for occasional travel abroad
