Mission

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechatronics Design Release Engineer (DRE) – Exterior Locks & Seats to lead the development, integration, and release of electro-mechanical access and seating systems. In this role, you will be responsible for key user-touchpoint systems including power latches, smart handles, power cinch systems, latch actuators, seat track/recline mechanisms, and integrated control modules. This is a remote-first position requiring strong cross-functional coordination. Active on-site engagement is essential you will travel to assembly plants, supplier facilities, and technical hubs across Saltillo, Toluca, and Mexico City to support pilot builds, tooling trials, root-cause diagnostics, and production launches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Design & Release: Lead the end-to-end lifecycle (pre-concept to SOP) for mechatronic access and seat systems, including power door latches, tailgate/frunk actutators, smart lock hardware, seat adjustment motors, and ECU interface integration.
  • System Integration & Packaging: Conduct packaging studies, kinematic analyses, clearance assessments, and mechanical/electrical integration using CATIA V5/V6 or Siemens NX within Teamcenter/Enovia frameworks.
  • Electro-Mechanical Validation: Develop and execute DVP&Rs (Design Verification Plan & Report) covering environmental, durability, NVH, FMVSS/ECE safety standards, and LIN/CAN signal validation.
  • Supplier & Tooling Management: Direct Tier-1 component and actuator suppliers on tooling timelines, DV/PV testing progress, software integration builds, and PPAP approvals.
  • On-Site Plant & Launch Support: Travel on-demand to manufacturing sites in Saltillo, Toluca, and Mexico City to resolve line-fit issues, execute engineering change requests (ECRs), oversee prototype builds, and lead structured root cause analysis (8D / 5-Why).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner remotely with BIW (Body in White), vehicle interior teams, body electronics (BCM), quality, and plant operations to ensure seamless mechanical fit and robust electrical control.

Profile

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering.
  • Experience: 3+ years of DRE or product design experience in automotive electro-mechanical systems (latches, door locks, seat actuators, power closure systems, or mechatronic hardware).
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Proficient in CAD systems (CATIA V5/V6 or Siemens NX) and PLM environment (Teamcenter or Enovia).
  • Solid understanding of electro-mechanical actuators, small DC motors, gear trains, latches/kinematics, and body control logic (LIN/CAN bus interfaces).
  • Strong foundation in DFMEA, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, injection molding, and metal stamping processes.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness and availability to travel on short notice to production facilities in Saltillo, Toluca, and Mexico City based on program launch gates.
