A leading automotive manufacturing organisation is implementing advanced digital and automated logistics solutions across its production operations.

We are seeking a Logistics Systems Engineer specialising in SAP EWM and logistics-system integration to support the implementation, commissioning and continuous improvement of intelligent in-plant logistics solutions.

Job Description

The Logistics Systems Engineer will lead the business-side implementation of logistics-system solutions supporting efficient material flow across the Press, Body, Paint and General Assembly shops.

The position will be responsible for requirements gathering, solution alignment, system implementation, integration, testing, commissioning, handover and operational improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide logistics-system expertise, particularly in SAP Extended Warehouse Management, or SAP EWM.
  • Lead business requirements gathering and ensure proposed system solutions match the physical material-handling processes.
  • Work closely with IT application teams to define and implement the required system functionalities.
  • Understand potential system and process failure modes and implement countermeasures to minimise the risk of production or line stoppages.
  • Lead SAP EWM implementation activities for Press, Body, Paint and General Assembly operations.
  • Develop optimal SAP EWM solutions based on operational requirements, project milestones and implementation plans.
  • Manage the complete system-implementation lifecycle, including:
    • Process confirmation.
    • Business-requirement analysis.
    • System-requirement definition.
    • Solution-design alignment and review.
    • Development follow-up.
    • Testing and validation.
    • Go-live preparation.
    • Post-go-live improvement.
  • Monitor project status and report progress, risks, issues and recommendations to management.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, IT teams, logistics vendors and system integrators.
  • Implement logistics systems supporting different material flows and line-feeding processes.
  • Ensure successful integration between logistics and production systems, including:
    • SAP and SAP EWM.
    • Manufacturing Execution Systems, or MES.
    • Pick-to-light systems.
    • Autonomous Mobile Robots, or AMRs.
    • Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems, or ASRS.
    • Container transfer units and related automation.
    • Call-button systems.
    • Operational visualisation systems.
  • Participate in end-to-end process User Acceptance Testing.
  • Coordinate UAT issue identification, resolution, retesting and closure.
  • Lead system buy-off, commissioning and handover to the logistics-operations team.
  • Prepare and present project deliverables, results and recommendations.
  • Support contract variation management and maintenance-contract sign-off.
  • Maintain complete system, testing, commissioning and handover documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, ISO standards and internal procedures.

Profile

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Equivalent practical systems experience within a large automotive manufacturing organisation may also be considered.
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience implementing logistics-system solutions in a manufacturing environment.
  • Practical experience with SAP EWM implementation, preferably covering requirements, design, testing, go-live and operational support.
  • Knowledge of MES and its integration with warehouse-management and production-logistics systems.
  • Experience integrating SAP EWM with logistics automation technologies.
  • Understanding of network communication and system-interface requirements.
  • Good knowledge of automotive material-handling processes, packaging, line feeding and vehicle-production operations.
  • Experience working with Press, Body, Paint or General Assembly shops would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong project-governance and project-management capabilities.
  • Good reporting, presentation and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Methodical approach with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
