Mission

We are looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Project Cost Engineer to join our team in Mexico City. In this role, you will be the financial compass for our engineering projects, specializing in automotive exhaust systems. You will bridge the gap between engineering, procurement, and finance, ensuring that our projects are delivered within budget without compromising on quality or performance. This is a hybrid role based out of our Santa Fe office, requiring you to be on-site 2 to 3 days a week for collaborative planning and cross-functional meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cost Estimation & Forecasting: Develop detailed, bottom-up cost estimates for new and existing exhaust system projects, including catalytic converters, mufflers, piping, and mounting hardware.
  • Budget Management: Track project expenditures, analyze variances, and provide regular financial status reports to project stakeholders and senior management.
  • Value Engineering: Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering teams to identify cost-reduction opportunities (VAVE) early in the product development lifecycle.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with the Procurement team to analyze supplier quotes, negotiate tooling costs, and validate material cost breakdowns (steel, precious metals, etc.).
  • Change Management: Evaluate the financial impact of engineering change requests (ECRs) and update cost models accordingly.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as the primary cost liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Sales.

Profile

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Automotive) or a related technical field. A background blending engineering and finance is highly preferred.
  • Industry Experience: Minimum of [3-5] years of experience in cost engineering, project management, or quoting within the automotive manufacturing sector.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Proven, hands-on experience working directly with exhaust systems (knowledge of stamping, welding, tube bending, and precious metal markets is highly advantageous).
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and familiarity with reading CAD drawings/technical blueprints.
  • Languages: Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken) is required to communicate with our global teams and suppliers.
  • Work Setup: Ability to commute to our Santa Fe, CDMX office 2-3 days a week.
