Mechanical Systems Engineer- Rolling Stock
Job Description
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced system engineer to help us on an exciting and innovative rolling stock project. We are looking for someone who can independently (with less supervision) work on all aspect of system engineering from bid to development to project delivery. The successful candidate will also support systems under their portfolio during upcoming bids as necessary, and have existing knowledge on systems integration.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Being solely responsible for timely delivery of all deliverables for the system listed above for the specific projects you are assigned on.
- Preparing and representing your system during design reviews and during meetings with all internal and external stake holders..
- Being integral in the development of the system, liaising with suppliers, projects and engineering and to provide a focal point for each system.
- Taking full responsibility and accountability to the system under your portfolio.
- Supporting the domain lead in necessary planning and progress reporting, to identify tasks.
- Escalating any issues and/or delays found during the development work to domain leads in a timely manner.
- Defining the train system architecture, operational modules and the functionalities in line with the external and internal requirements.
- Writing sub-system specification and architecture description in collaboration with relevant stakeholders according to train level architecture.
- Ensuring that there is consistency and and compatibility between all of the sub-systems specifications.
- Performing train system FMECA in collaboration with other teams.
- Resolve technical open issues.
- Writing the train level test specifications and ensure the train integration and tuning is in line with company standards.
- Perform reports at project and metier level.
- Occasionally work at height and underneath the train.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Experience working within Rolling Stock
- Degree or equivalent in Mechanical with an understanding of electrical principles, or another relevant discipline
- Experience in system engineering
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering around train systems and of integration environment
- Strong communication and customer orientation skills
- Ability to communicate with internal stakeholders and suppliers on a regular basis
- Member of relevant professional institution (IMechE or IET) or working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer (if not already Chartered) and undertaking Continued Profession Development

- Understanding of electrical and software systems and how they interact with TCMS
- Railway experience
