Design and Release Engineer (Chassis)
Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Design Release Engineer (DRE) – Chassis to support the design, development, validation, and release of chassis systems and components. This role will work cross-functionally with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing to ensure designs meet performance, cost, quality, and timing targets throughout the product lifecycle.
The position is fully remote with availability to travel occassionally, supporting global vehicle programs.
Key Responsibilities
- • Act as Design Release Engineer for assigned chassis components/systems (e.g. suspension, subframes, control arms, bushings, knuckles, steering interfaces, mounts).
- • Own the design release process from concept through production, including: Requirements definition, CAD release, Engineering management, BOM ownership
- • Coordinate with CAE, durability, NVH, vehicle dynamics, manufacturing, quality, and purchasing teams.
- • Lead supplier technical reviews, ensuring designs meet functional, cost, timing, and quality requirements.
- • Manage DFMEA, DVP&R, and design validation activities.
- • Support prototype builds, testing, issue resolution, and root cause analysis.
- • Ensure compliance with OEM standards, regulatory requirements, and internal engineering specifications.
- • Drive continuous improvement, weight reduction, cost optimization, and design robustness.
- • Support launch activities and resolve production or field issues as needed.
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- • 5+ years of experience as a DRE or Product Engineer within the automotive chassis domain
- • Strong understanding of chassis systems and vehicle integration
- • Experience with design release processes in an OEM or Tier 1 environment
- • Proficiency in CAD systems (CATIA, NX, or equivalent)
- • Solid experience with: DFMEA / PFMEA, DVP&R, Engineering change management
- • Ability to work effectively in a remote, global, cross-functional team
- • Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
- • Fluent in English (written and verbal)
Preferred Qualifications
- • Master’s degree in engineering
- • Experience supporting multiple vehicle programs simultaneously
- • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (stamping, casting, welding, machining)
- • Experience working with global suppliers
- • Familiarity with PLM systems (Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.)
