Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Design Release Engineer (DRE) – Chassis Tires & Wheels to join our engineering team. In this role, you will assist with the engineering release, integration, and validation of wheels (alloy and steel), tires, tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), valves, and mounting hardware.
This is a remote position based in Mexico, but it requires flexibility to travel to plant sites and engineering centers in Saltillo, Toluca, or Santa Fe (CDMX) to support pre-production builds, line trial runs, dynamic tire/wheel balancing checks, and supplier coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Release & BOM: Assist in managing 3D CAD models, drafting standards, and part releases (Bill of Materials maintenance and Engineering Change Orders) within PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Enovia).
Packaging & Clearance: Conduct basic packaging and clearance checks for wheel/tire assemblies within the wheel well, ensuring proper offsets and clearance to suspension components and brake calipers under full jounce/steer conditions.
Supplier & Assembly Support: Coordinate with Tier-1 wheel and tire suppliers to track prototype delivery timelines, sample builds, and initial dimensional reports.
Testing & Validation: Support the execution of the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), tracking progress on wheel fatigue testing (radial/cornering), impact testing, and tire uniformity/wear evaluations.
Plant Launch Support: Participate in on-site support at manufacturing facilities in Saltillo, Toluca, or Santa Fe during build events to troubleshoot tire mounting, runout, wheel torque, and wheel balancing issues.
Problem Solving & Quality: Assist senior engineers in root cause analysis (8D, DFMEA investigations) for minor build defects or line fitment issues.
Profil
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience: 1–3 years of experience in automotive engineering, product design, or manufacturing (internships/co-op experience in chassis or vehicle assembly will be considered).
Technical Skills:
Fundamental proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX, or SolidWorks).
Basic understanding of GD&T, stack-up analysis, and mechanical design principles.
Familiarity with wheel and tire concepts (e.g., wheel offset, bolt patterns, tire sizing, force variation, and balancing principles).
Basic knowledge of PLM/PDM systems and change management processes.
Languages: Business fluency in Spanish and professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Mobility: Willingness and ability to travel up to 25–30% to Saltillo, Toluca, or Santa Fe (CDMX) as required by project milestones and launch activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of aluminum casting, flow-forming, or rubber manufacturing processes.
Exposure to Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) or automated tire mounting/balancing equipment on an assembly line.
Prior experience or internship in an automotive OEM or Tier-1 plant environment in Mexico.
