SENIOR CONTROL & INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER (Control Systems Specialist)
Job Description
Experience
• 10+ years C&I design experience
• 6+ years Oil & Gas experience
• Functional safety experience
• Field instrumentation and control system commissioning experience
Responsibilities - Functional
• Execute full C&I scope on EPC/EPCM projects
• Develop control system architecture and functional design
• Develop control narratives, shutdown logic and functional specifications
• Develop instrumentation design (datasheets, loop drawings, BOQs)
• Develop fieldbus/communication network designs
• Develop fire & gas detection system designs
• Develop P&IDs reflecting C&I scope
• Review and approve design outputs of team members
• Liaise with clients, vendors, internal disciplines
• Maintain compliance with IEC/SABS standards
Commitment & Authorisations
• Authorised to approve C&I deliverables
• Authorised to perform vendor technical adjudications
• Authorised to validate compliance with IEC/SABS and safety standards
Objectives of the function
• Deliver safe and compliant C&I designs
• Ensure functional integration across disciplines
• Provide leadership in control systems engineering
• Support commissioning and functional testing
• Guide junior engineers and develop team capability
Mission and tasks
• Develop control narratives and shutdown philosophies
• Develop SCADA, DCS and ESD functional designs
• Prepare SIL documentation, verification and functional safety design
• Prepare SmartPlant Instrumentation deliverables
• Develop wiring/loop diagrams and instrument specifications
• Perform communication network design
• Develop fire & gas system documentation
• Perform hazardous area classification and instrument selection
• Perform control valve sizing and selection
• Prepare technical specifications and enquiry documentation
• Review vendor documentation for design integrity
• Perform installation BOQs and site supervision
• Support commissioning and plant functional testing
Skills
• Strong knowledge of IEC/SABS standards
• Expertise in control system functional design
• Strong SCADA/DCS/ESD design capability
• SmartPlant Instrumentation proficiency
• Strong communication & client interface capability
• Technical documentation & specification skills
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination
Prerequisites
• Ability to interpret P&IDs and MFDs
• Knowledge of hazardous area classification
• Understanding of functional safety (SIL)
Qualifications
Diplomas
• BSc / BEng Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Required)
• Pr.Eng (ECSA – Required)
