BIW Process Engineers
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning: Lead the planning, development, and implementation of BIW assembly processes and facilities to meet Safety, Quality, Timing, and Cost objectives.
Feasibility Analysis: Provide critical feasibility statements for Product Development designs, ensuring alignment with manufacturing requirements.
Process Optimization: Conduct robust process quality planning, leveraging virtual build simulations and PFMEA’s to enhance efficiency and minimize risks.
Hands-On Support: Actively participate in physical builds across workshop, pilot build, and Manufacturing Plant locations, addressing issues promptly for seamless execution.
Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend cutting-edge manufacturing technologies for various applications, such as joining technologies, transfer systems, and logistics.
Supplier Relations: Manage supplier relationships by preparing, issuing, and evaluating "Request for Quotations," ensuring alignment with project needs.
Verification and Validation: Verify assembly processes and equipment both at suppliers and in-house facilities, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
Problem Solving: Provide expert support in resolving complex issues to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) effectively.
Project Management: Support management activities by developing and monitoring detailed timing plans, ensuring projects stay on track.
Compliance and Standards: Ensure strict adherence to company and departmental operating processes and policies.
Technical Leadership: Manage technical challenges, offer guidance to the team, and escalate issues when necessary to ensure timely resolution.
Equipment Capability: Drive achievement of Equipment Capability targets for all new and modified facilities, maintaining high standards of performance.
Qualifications
- Engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or above, preferably Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or Mech/Elec combined) and/or suitable engineering experience in BIW manufacturing.
- Experience in delivering and launching BIW assembly line facilities.
- Strong complex problem-solving skills & investigation of quality issues, manual station over cycles, effective reporting and stakeholder management.
- Project management experience of delivering new or modified equipment into a production facility.
- Ability to work within cross-functional teams and take task ownership to deliver results.
- Ability to plan & prioritise workstreams to deliver objectives effectively.
