Job Description
The Role: Material Forming Engineer
In this highly collaborative and technically crucial role, you will ensure new materials meet formability requirements, support production readiness, and drive continuous improvements across stamping operations.
You’ll act as the link between engineering, supply base and manufacturing, ensuring the highest standards while supporting process optimisation and quality performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate, deliver and report on press trials to assess and qualify new materials for JLR Press Shops.
- Lead and contribute to material cost‑reduction initiatives.
- Support standardisation of testing equipment and processes across suppliers and internal press shops.
- Produce and maintain material-related process standards.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials for Try-Out and Production Ramp-Up on new model programmes.
- Monitor and help reduce non-processed scrap, maximising processed scrap value.
- Benchmark other OEMs and contribute to departmental continuous improvement KPIs.
- Analyse technical documentation, produce detailed reports, and support engineering change control.
- Work closely with stamping leadership, operational teams and cross-functional departments (BIW, T&F, Paint).
- Liaise with external suppliers on materials, technical documentation, and process improvement opportunities.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship or degree/equivalent in sheet metal forming.
- Experience coordinating and delivering press trial activities.
- Strong understanding of materials, forming processes and material behaviour.
- Skilled in root cause analysis, corrective action, and driving process improvements.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills at all levels.
- Strong MS Office skills; familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools.
- Full driving licence with flexibility for regular site travel.
Desirable
- Knowledge of steel and aluminium manufacturing processes (blast furnaces, rolling mills, heat treatment, etc.).
- Experience in die manufacturing, buy-off, or press operations.
- Background in quality problem solving (dimensional, formability, cosmetic).
